A laminar flow hood is a device that shields the operator from the product. Its main purpose is to avoid contamination of the product. The working principle of this device is based on the movement of laminar airflow. Through a specific filtering device, the air flows horizontally at a certain speed to form a downward airflow. This airflow has a uniform speed and consistent direction, which can effectively eliminate particles and microorganisms in the air.

Laminar flow hood usually consist of a top air supply and a bottom exhaust system. The air supply system draws air in through a fan, filters it with a hepa air filter, and then sends it into laminar flow hood. In the laminar flow hood, the air supply system is arranged downward through specially designed air supply openings, making the air a uniform horizontal air flow state. The exhaust system at the bottom discharges pollutants and particulate matter in the hood through the air outlet to keep the inside of the hood clean.

The laminar flow hood is a local clean air supply device with vertical unidirectional flow. The air cleanliness in local area can reach ISO 5 (class 100) or higher clean environment. The level of cleanliness depends on the performance of the hepa filter. According to the structure, laminar flow hoods are divided into fan and fanless, front return air type and rear return air type; according to the installation method, they are divided into vertical (column) type and hoisting type. Its basic components include shell, pre-filter, fan, hepa filter, static pressure box and supporting electrical appliances, automatic control devices, etc. The air inlet of the unidirectional flow hood with a fan is generally taken from clean room, or it can be taken from the technical mezzanine, but its structure is different, so attention should be paid to the design. The fanless laminar flow hood is mainly composed of a hepa filter and a box, and its inlet air is taken from the purification air-conditioning system.

In addition, the laminar flow hood not only plays the main role of avoiding product contamination, but also isolates the operating area from the external environment, prevents operators from being invaded by external pollutants, and protects the safety and health of personnel. In some experiments that have very high requirements on the operating environment, it can provide a pure operating environment to prevent external microorganisms from affecting the experimental results. At the same time, laminar flow hoods usually use hepa filters and air flow adjustment devices inside, which can provide stable temperature, humidity and air flow speed to maintain a constant environment in operating area.
